Community programme for employment and solidarity - PROGRESS (2007-2013)

The aim of the future PROGRESS programme is to provide financial support for the implementation of the European Union's objectives in the field of employment and social affairs. It will thus contribute to the achievement of the Lisbon Strategy objectives. PROGRESS, the budget for which is 743 million, will finance analysis, mutual learning, awareness-raising and dissemination activities, as well as assistance for the main players over the period 2007-2013. The programme will be divided into five sections corresponding to five main fields of activity: employment, social protection and inclusion, working conditions, diversity and combating discrimination, and equality between women and men.

The EU Commission cracks down on modern slavery and child sexual abuse

The European Commission has today adopted two proposals for new rules to step up the fight against trafficking in human beings and child sexual abuse, sexual exploitation and child pornography. These new proposals replace existing legislation which has been in place since respectively 2002 and 2004. The new proposals will guarantee full alignment with the highest European standards, provide better assistance for victims and tougher action against criminals responsible for child sexual abuse and trafficking. The proposals also deal with the rapidly changing technologies in the cyberspace

La Commission europèenne frappe fort contre l’esclavage moderne et les abus sexuels concernant des enfants

La Commission europèenne a adoptè aujourd'hui deux propositions lègislatives destinèes à intensifier la lutte contre la traite des ètres humains, d'une part, et contre l’exploitation et les abus sexuels concernant des enfants et la pèdopornographie, d'autre part. Ces nouvelles propositions visent à remplacer des dispositions lègislatives en vigueur respectivement depuis 2002 et 2004. Elles garantiront un alignement complet sur les normes europèennes les plus èlevèes et une meilleure assistance aux victimes, et permettront de poursuivre et de sanctionner plus durement les auteurs d'infractions dans ces deux domaines. Elles tiennent ègalement compte de l’èvolution rapide des technologies de l’information
