Australia has been hit by a recent pet food scandal because anyone can basically produce what they want and because plastic has been found in some products; But what about plastic threads up to about 6 centimeters long that I found in an Australian Heinz "tomato & chicken curry" can? it should be food for humans…shouldn’t it? ... Those plastic fragments aren’t very visible due to transparency but luckily I could feel them between my teeth. We now must ask ourselves if there are other bits of plastic or synthetic materials in our food that we can’t even see; This may be the case because, as has already been established, fibers enter the food chain of animals, as every time we wash clothes, synthetic fabrics release microfibers that flow into the water and therefore also pollute us when we eat fish ... From all this it is clear that there is not enough control over the food industry. This is international problem, in fact already in 2009, in Italy, I gave the alarm for a similar case as I had actually found twice a pesto sauce contaminated with plastic fiber. These were thin strands of transparent plastic, found in pesto sold by an Austrian company and produced in Sori's factories ... Obviously these plastic or nylon threads are originally designed to hold food ingredients together before preparation; and here we must make two considerations: the first is that they could use other materials, such as rope or paper which, in the event they end up in food, it wouldn’t be as intoxicating as plastic and the second one is that the producers are obviously extremely coarse, when separating the waste elements, as it is supposed to be! Or should we perhaps think that for the food industry is not enough that the price of food has skyrocketed and that they really wants us to eat plastic?
